Definition: CMS

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, an agency within the US Department of Health & Human Services, administers the Medicare program. As part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) was established within CMS. CMMI supports the development and testing of innovative health care payment and service delivery models such as the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) initiatives, all which include gainsharing.
